It all begins with an idea. That moment of magic, that
second of
serendipity when a story springs to mind.
Then, after hours, days, seasons and years of
hard work, it all ends with

‘The End.’

Or does it?…

‘…in comes Sinclair House…’

Sinclair House is dedicated to working with new and experienced SFF authors, to bridge the gap between an unpolished draft and a book that is ready for publication!

As an author, you may find yourself at an impasse:

  • Your first draft is done, but you dread editing it alone.

  • You love your work, but you can’t quite put your finger on its weaknesses.

  • You feel too close to your story and want someone to help push it to be the very best it can be.

  • You’re keen to get your book published, but need direction to help shape it, followed by guidance on getting it out into the world.

These moments can make or break a book—but you don’t have to go through it alone. Sinclair House will help transform your story into its strongest form and guide you through these situations, provide a warm and professional editing experience, and champion your book from draft to publication and beyond.

FAQs

  • I, above all else, value a friendly and positive editing experience. As such, every editing service and package comes with some guarantees: a warm and professional relationship with your editor, a new advocate for your book, a friend you can send silly messages to about your story, a sounding board for all your bookish ideas, and someone who will listen and lament with you over the stressful trials of authorship.

Beyond this, I value communication, transparency, and flexibility—the balancing act of life can be very demanding for most authors, so I strive to create an open space where needs and wants can be communicated with ease.

  • That is entirely up to you! However, I can provide a basic guideline:

    • Developmental Edit: best for authors who have finished their first (maybe second) draft and want a critical eye turned to the effectiveness of their story. You should be in a space where you’re able to make sweeping changes to your story if necessary. If you have concerns regarding the larger elements of your story (such as plot, pacing, character, and worldbuilding), this is the edit for you. Almost all books, self-published or otherwise, benefit from a developmental edit.

    • Line Edit: best for authors who have done substantial editing work on perfecting the broad strokes of their story and are now looking to get into the nitty-gritty. You may be up to your second or third (maybe fourth) draft and feel satisfied with your primary story elements. All authors, even those fully confident in their craft, would still benefit from a line edit, as it challenges your writing down to the line level from a critical perspective.

    • Copy Edit: best for authors who are looking to nail the mechanics of language. The hardest edits have been done—you are pleased with your novel, are confident in your delivery and style, can identify and understand the full impact and cohesiveness of your story elements, and believe you have crafted the story that you always wanted to publish. The copy edit will be the polish on top to make your work professional and clean.

If you require multiple (or all) of the above services, I highly recommend the Packages, allowing you to save 10-20% on total costs.

  • Invoices will be issued regarding your service at the allotted months (if paying in instalments) or as a lump sump. These will be delivered to your email. You will be able to pay the invoice by bank transfer. Account information (including SWIFT codes for international payees) will be provided. If you have any further required information to make the payment, don’t hesitate to get in contact via email (henry@sinclairhouse.co)

  • By submitting the manuscript via the Manuscript Submission Form, I will be able to see which services you are looking for and get a sense of your work via the submission you provide. If your manuscript is accepted, I will be in contact via email to arrange a meeting to discuss your plans for your book, the service I will provide, any payment considerations, and provide timeframes.
